8 Sept Church Service Message: Trusting in God and overcoming our fear and doubts

Summary of Exodus 4:1-5, 10-17:

Moses is hesitant to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, citing his lack of eloquence and ability. God reassures him, saying, "I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak." God also gives Moses two signs to demonstrate his divine authority: turning his staff into a snake and then back into a staff, and causing his hand to become leprous and then healed.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Overcoming Fear and Doubt: Even when we feel inadequate, God can equip us for the tasks He calls us to.
  2. The Power of God's Presence: God promises to be with Moses and guide his words, reminding us that we are not alone in our endeavors.
  3. The Importance of Signs and Miracles: While faith is ultimately a matter of belief, God sometimes uses signs and miracles to confirm His word and authenticate His messengers.
  4. The Role of Leadership: Moses was initially reluctant to lead, but God chose him for the task. This passage highlights the importance of accepting leadership roles and trusting in God's guidance.

Open Question: What are you afraid of doing today?

This question invites us to reflect on our own fears and doubts, and to consider how God might be calling us to step out of our comfort zones. It can also be an opportunity to remember that God's presence and power can overcome any obstacle we may face.

Atomic Habits: 4 Laws of Sustainable Habits By James Clear

Atomic Habits by James Clear empowers readers to make lasting, positive changes in their lives by focusing on small, intentional efforts to build good habits and break bad ones. Clear emphasizes the power of incremental progress and provides practical strategies for transforming everyday behaviors into lasting, positive change.

The book expounded on 4 principles (SEAO) to sustain habits - Make it obvious, Make it easy, Make it attractive, Make it Satisfying. Summary of the principles can be found below:

I’ve personally found James Clear’s advice invaluable as I work on making incremental improvements in my life. Beyond the four key principles, Clear addresses the crucial "WHY" behind habit change, emphasizing the importance of linking habits to one's identity. For instance, I’ve found it easier to maintain my fitness by viewing it as part of my role as a father, which motivates me to stay committed and aligned with my personal values.

What are some positive habits that you are building up this year? Feel free to share in the comments section!
